Disclosure: I am an investor in Broccoli Club
Broccoli Club NFTs
The Broccoli Club (website, twitter, discord) is a collection of 10,000 incredibly vibrant and cute NFTs on the Polygon blockchain. These brightly-toned Brassicas are aiding to re-forest areas that were previously verdant woodlands, such as the Mississippi Delta, Haiti, British Colombia, and many other areas around the globe. In order to accomplish this, the Broccoli Club team choose to donate to #teamtrees, and they donate $1USD from every mint to plant a tree! As of publishing, they have planted 1185 trees and make new donations every few weeks. I sat down recently for a chat with Calymorph, the team’s content marketer and publisher.
Little trees, big trees, big inspiration
tehbizz: What was the genesis of the Broccoli Club NFT project?
Calymorph: So basically, our team was striving to start a business that will allow us to incorporate our profits into well, a charitable donation; a one that saves the environment in particular. And what better way to do that than to start a simple NFT project that wouldn't take up much of our budget and does not require that much manpower? And thus, Broccoli Club was made. Why the broccoli? You may ask. Well, broccolis do look like little trees, don't they? And since our project donates to team trees, it makes quite a lot of sense, yes?
tehbizz: Now that the team has donated enough to plant nearly 1000 trees – a phenomenal effort! – and Broccoli Club has an increasing floor price with each phase, will the number of trees donated per sale also increase? Or will your model continue to be “Buy 1, Plant 1”?
Calymorph: So about that, we are still going to keep the "Buy 1, Plant 1" model going for Broccoli Club. However, we will be launching a new NFT project that will be contributing to team seas, removing a pound of rubbish from the ocean with every sale made.
tehbizz: Oh awesome, it looks like I will have another project to support and write about.
To wrap up, do you feel that projects such as Broccoli Club and others that are donating to charities will become more commonplace as NFTs continue to gain mainstream prominence? One of my goals is to try and give more prominence to the idea that NFTs are about far more than just flipping JPEGs for money, and it's far easier to do a charitable thing than it is to do a greedy one.Calymorph: As the NFT market increases, it is unequivocal and inevitable that more brands will start using the incentive of "donating to charity", or in this case, "helping to save the environment" to incline consumers to purchase their NFT. Therefore, "greedy" NFT creators may surface and use charities to their personal advantage. This may or may not be a good thing as in the end, they will still be donating to charity, (unless they lie about donating). And for the issue concerning how NFTs seem like a pointless JPEG or PNG flipping, I don't really think much of it. True, we are marketing literal JPEGs and PNGs online for cold, hard cash. Though, here at Broccoli Club, we strive to put most of our profits into charitable donations.
And just like that, the Broccolis will be joined by the team’s new project, Mysterious Nixies! Now the team are aiming to not only re-forest the planet, but they’re aiding in cleaning up our oceans and beaches by donating to #teamseas! I look forward to seeing the new project launch and the continued roadmap for Broccoli Club, as they have a new P2E game coming out soon!
